Preliminary evaluation through jar testing of industrial wastewater for the optimization of coagulation/flocculation processes (food industry)

Objective

Jar Test evaluation of the optimal dosages of PAC (poly aluminium chloride) and polyelectrolyte to optimize the coagulation/flocculation processes of a food waste treatment plant.

Approach

  • perform the Jar Test on different samples after sedimentation using various combinations of PAC, electrolyte and pH;
  • analyse the following parameters before and after testing: total and soluble COD, total suspended solids (TSS), turbidity, pH and conductivity.

Results

The Jar Test provides a solid experimental basis for optimising industrial coagulation/flocculation treatment. The results demonstrate that, in certain instances, reducing the dosage of reagents is feasible while maintaining satisfactory performance, particularly when pH control is targeted.
