Advancing sustainable solutions
through innovative biological processes

LabICAB – Laboratory of chemical engineering for the environment and bioprocesses – is a research group within the Department of Biotechnology of the University of Verona, led by Prof. David Bolzonella.

Our research spans diverse areas, including wastewater treatment, resource recovery from waste, biorefining, bioenergy production (biogas and biohydrogen), and bio-based fertilizers, with additional focuses on CO₂ conversion and microbial protein production.

LabICAB’s approach covers the entire development pipeline, from lab-scale exploration (TRL 3-4) to demonstrative and pre-industrial stages (TRL 6-8), in collaboration with engineering and construction firms.
We actively foster innovation by partnering with companies, providing scientific and technical expertise to support technology scale-up and implementation.

This strategy allows us to produce transferable knowledge, develop scalable technologies, and tackle key environmental and industrial challenges.
