Turning carbon of complex organic urban waste streams into value-added products

CIRCULAR BIOCARBON is an EU project funded by the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) under Horizon 2020. It aims to create a first-of-its-kind flagship biorefinery to convert municipal solid waste (OFMSW) and sewage sludge (SS) into high-value products like coatings, biodegradable and compostable waste bags, green graphene-based devices, and biostimulants. The project involves 11 partners from Spain, Italy, Denmark, France, and Germany, and sets the basis for the demonstration, at a commercial level, of the feasibility of two biorefineries in Zaragoza (ES) and Sesto San Giovanni (IT).

LabICAB, as third-part entity of the WWEELab Research Group of UNIVPM, support the construction and the start-up of the SCEPPHAR system dedicated to PHA and Phosphorus recovery within Italian biorefinery.
