Resource recovery from novel assisted metabolism
REFRAME, funded by the EU under Horizon Europe’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), aims to develop a novel bioelectrochemical system to valorize primary cellulose sludge and reduce municipal treatment plants energy consumption.
Federico Micolucci, with the support of LabICAB’s team, is responsible for the design, management, and optimization of the system to convert the recovered cellulose into valuable product with industrial application such as platform chemicals (volatile fatty acids), biopolymers (polyhydroxyalkanoates) and ingredients for animal feed (single cell proteins).
