A circular economy system for multi-source biomass conversion to added value products

The Life CIRCforBIO project aims to significantly reduce GHG emissions by replacing fossil fuels with advanced biofuels and promoting the circular economy for biomass. It demonstrates an innovative biorefinery concept to produce bioethanol, used oil (raw material for biodiesel), and other bioproducts from food waste and agricultural residues. An interactive platform has been created to support the circular economy for 2nd generation biomass in Greece. The project objectives include achieving energy autonomy, high performance of fuel ethanol mixes, high-quality ethanol and biodiesel, boosting biogas production, and fostering employment growth and capacity building in relevant technologies.

LabICAB has explored the treatment of food waste (spent coffee grounds, OFMSW – organic fraction of municipal solid waste) for the production of valuable bioproducts using a cascade biorefinery approach.
