Assessment of biological treatability and advanced treatment of industrial wastewater (petrochemical sector)

Objective
Optimization of COD and nitrogen removal from complex wastewater.
Approach
- chemical and physical characterization of incoming and outgoing wastewater;
- assessment of wastewater biodegradability through respirometric tests;
- assessment of advanced treatments (adsorption-PAC, GAC, zeolites) and advanced oxidation (ozone) on the removal of organic contaminants.
Results
The wastewater is biologically treatable, but requires pre-treatment to reduce COD and nitrogen.
Advanced combined treatments are more effective for the simultaneous removal of organic contaminants.
